About This Checklist
This checklist sets out the mandatory training requirements under the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards and the Aged Care Act 2024 (from 1 November 2025), alongside competency-based training evidence providers must collect.
It applies to all staff, including employees, contractors, associated providers, labour-hire, and volunteers.

1. Rights & Person-Centred Care

4. Responding to Medical Emergencies
Mandatory Requirement
Required under Standard 2.9.6(d)

Simulation/drill, observed response, CPR practical (if adopted)

Induction + annual (First Aid every 3 yrs if adopted)
Competency Assessments in Ausmed
- Basic Life Support (BLS)To provide basic life support to an adult in the event of a life-threatening event. Note: This assessment does not replace formal first aid training required for certification as a first aid responder.
- Perform Choking First AidThe candidate will be able to recognise choking and assist a choking individual in an aged care setting.
- Use the Stop and Watch Early Warning Tool in DeteriorationTo recognise and respond to early recognition of changes or declines in an individual's health status.
- Recognise the Signs of Deterioration in Mental HeathTo ensure candidates can recognise, support and promote the mental health and wellbeing of individuals in their care.

- Assisting an Individual with MedicationTo ensure an individual is safely assisted to take their medications from a dose administration aid (DAA).
- Medication CalculationTo ensure the candidate is able to calculate the correct dose of medication prior to administration.
- Observing Skin IntegrityTo maintain the skin integrity of the individual.
- Prevent Pressure Injuries: Care WorkerTo ensure the candidate understands their role and responsibilities when monitoring the skin of individuals in their care.
- Support Positive Food, Nutrition and Dining ExperiencesTo support a positive nutrition, hydration and dining experience for the individual.
- Dysphagia and the IDDSI FrameworkEnsure the candidate understands dysphagia, applies the IDDSI framework relevant to their scope of practice, provides safe care support, and escalates concerns to support individuals with swallowing difficulties.
- Monitor and Record Basic Vital SignsTo equip workers with the knowledge and skills to accurately measure and interpret basic vital signs for safe and effective care.
- Conduct Blood Glucose Level (BGL) MonitoringTo ensure candidates are able to monitor and interpret blood glucose levels accurately, record findings, and take appropriate action when results fall outside the normal range.
- Provide Effective Oral HygieneTo ensure workers are able to provide person-centred, effective oral care as part of personal hygiene and grooming.
- Dress an IndividualTo ensure that candidates demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to provide safe, effective, and person-centred support to individuals with dressing.
- Shower an IndividualEnsure the candidate can safely and respectfully support an individual with showering in a home care setting while maintaining dignity, privacy, comfort, and safety.
- Bed-bathe an IndividualThe purpose of this competency assessment is to ensure the learner can safely and respectfully support an individual with bed-bathing while maintaining dignity, privacy, comfort, and safety.
