Meet the same Standards as any hospital with a much smaller team.

For day hospitals and day procedure services, independent or in a group. Ausmed assigns training by role, sends the reminders and records theatre sign-offs on the day. The evidence for a short-notice assessment is there without a dedicated education team.

Book a walkthrough

Let the system carry the load a small team can’t.

Small sites run short lists, and the workforce changes from one session to the next.

One person, every role

At a small day hospital the director of nursing can also be the HR manager, the educator and the competency assessor.

In Ausmed

Ausmed Learn™ assigns training from each person's role and sends the reminders, escalating to their manager when something goes overdue.

Every facility faces its own assessment

Assessors have to assess each hospital and day procedure facility in a group, and notice can come at any point in its cycle.

In Ausmed

The Audit Report in Ausmed Analytics™ filters to the site being assessed and exports to PDF that morning.

Licensed and unlicensed areas under one roof

Some sites hold a licence for day surgery and procedure rooms, while the consulting rooms next door sit outside it.

In Ausmed

Set each area up as its own location in Ausmed and it reports on its own.

Ward content misses theatre staff

General acute content does not always fit theatre and recovery staff.

In Ausmed

Upload your own workbooks or turn them into courses with Course Builder, and fill the rest from the 1,000+ hospital and acute care resources in the Ausmed Library™.

Visiting and agency clinicians

Agency and locum staff work lists alongside employees, and their orientation counts under Action 1.19.

In Ausmed

Give them an onboarding plan of their own and their orientation reports beside everyone else's.

A big hospital's training matrix

Matrices copied from large hospitals carry requirements a day service does not need.

In Ausmed

Start from the Library's acute induction and annual mandatory training plan templates instead, and cut them to fit your lists.

“We're a private hospital, so we have to comply with private hospital requirements for our day surgery department and our our injection suites, but for the rest of the clinic, they're just doctors' rooms, so they're not licensed, but they still have to comply to the national standards.”

Private day hospital and specialist clinic, Western Australia

Run the whole site on two training plans.

For many day hospitals, a clinical plan and a non-clinical plan cover most of what staff need. Start from the Induction: Acute Care and Annual Mandatory Training: Acute Care templates in the Ausmed Library™, adjust them, and assign each plan by job role.

Recurring assignment re-assigns the annual plan each year, and reminders escalate to the manager when anything is overdue.

Hands-on sessions such as basic life support run as In-person events in Ausmed Learn™. Staff enrol or join the waitlist, and Ausmed writes attendance to the same record as their online modules.

NSQHS Standards, second edition

Record Action 1.19 orientation for every agency and visiting clinician.

Day procedure services are accredited to the same eight NSQHS Standards as an acute hospital, and a service can't mark any of the workforce actions in Clinical Governance not applicable. Orientation covers everyone who works a list.

Action 1.19

The health service organisation provides orientation to the organisation that describes roles and responsibilities for safety and quality for:
a. Members of the governing body
b. Clinicians, and any other employed, contracted, locum, agency, student or volunteer members of the organisation

In Ausmed, visiting and agency clinicians get an onboarding plan of their own as soon as you add them. Ausmed sends the policies they must acknowledge at the same time.

The Audit Report lists each person's orientation status with completion dates. The agency anaesthetic nurse from last Tuesday is as easy to show an assessor as a permanent employee.

Audit preparedness
Building a custom competency assessment

Sign off theatre competencies on the day, in the theatre.

Build the competencies your theatre, anaesthetic and recovery staff already use in Ausmed Competency™, and choose who you approve to assess each one. The assessor records Competent or Not Yet Competent in the assessor app, with their name, the date and their comments.

A Not Yet Competent result goes into the action log for follow-up, and the first attempt stays on file beside the reassessment.

There are no Ausmed day surgery templates. You start from your own forms, and you don't rewrite anything to fit ours.

Digitising paper-based competencies

Report licensed and unlicensed areas separately.

Set the licensed day surgery and procedure rooms up as their own locations, and they report on their own for the licensing return. The whole facility still reports by NSQHS Standard.

For groups, site comparisons put each day hospital side by side. When notice arrives, the Audit Report gives the assessor each person's status, requirement by requirement, with timestamps.

A private Perform note with evidence attached

Keep the review cycle running without an enterprise HR team.

In a small day hospital, one person can be the director of nursing, the HR manager and the educator. Ausmed Perform™ schedules probation programs and annual reviews, and reminds each manager when one falls due.

Between reviews, managers record what they see in private Perform notes, with evidence attached, so the review draws on the whole year and not on memory.

Reviews sit on the same staff record as training and theatre sign-offs, ready for an assessor who asks about Action 1.22.

A day service answers to everything an acute hospital does, and one record covers it in Ausmed.

A day procedure service answers to the same eight NSQHS Standards as an acute hospital, and can't set aside any of the workforce actions. One Ausmed record covers accreditation and the state licence.

Frequently asked questions

Is there content for perioperative and recovery staff?

Some. The Ausmed Library™ has 1,000+ hospital and acute care resources, and we'll show you which fit your perioperative, anaesthetic and recovery staff and where the gaps are.

Upload your own workbooks and modules or build them in Course Builder, and assign them through the same plans.

We are a single site with no education team. Is this too much system for us?

A day hospital can run on two training plans assigned by role. Reminders do most of the chasing, and staff complete modules on the Ausmed mobile app between lists.

Ausmed Learn™ suits single sites where one person runs training and compliance.

How do visiting, contracted and agency clinicians fit in?

Ausmed Learn™ can give casual and agency staff an onboarding plan of their own. You assign contracted and agency clinicians orientation like anyone else, and it shows in the same reports.

Do day procedure services use a different version of the Standards?

No. Day procedure services are accredited to the same eight NSQHS Standards (second edition). A service can mark some actions not applicable, depending on what it does, but none of the workforce actions.

The Commission's 2017 guide for day procedure services offers supporting strategies, which are not mandatory.
