In this microcredential you will explore the impact of maternal health on the growing fetus. One of the significant determinants of fetal growth and well-being is the mother’s health. The growing fetus and mother have a symbiotic relationship: pregnancy-induced complications and maternal disease impact fetal well-being and the neonate’s ability to adapt to ex-uterine life. The multidisciplinary collaboration provided by woman-centered care models improves outcomes for mothers and their babies, especially those with complex health needs. So, we will also discuss the physiology of pregnancy and the underlying pathophysiology associated with common pregnancy and birth complications. This microcredential is the second in a series of three that corresponds to the unit of study 071 Applied Neonatal Physiology.
