Course Overview

This Mandatory Training Module discusses child protection from abuse and neglect, with a focus on the nature, presentation and identification of cases. The impact that abuse and neglect can have on a child or young person is also considered in depth. This is an interactive Module designed to help you gain information on this preventable health and social concern, and to correctly identify and respond to suspected instances you may encounter in your workplace.

Learning Outcomes
  • Demonstrate an awareness of what constitutes child abuse and its impact on a child and young person.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining a child focus when considering the possibility of abuse or neglect, and how the ‘rule of optimism’ affects our actions when deciding if we suspect abuse and / or neglect.
  • Consider the concept of shared responsibility for the protection of children.
Target Audience

This module is intended for healthcare professionals commencing employment or renewing annual competencies in the healthcare sector, who may work with children. This includes general nurses, midwives, other health professionals and those who work with children such as teachers and childcare workers.

I will make sure when attending cares that there are nil signs of abuse or trauma. My role as a Registered Nurse is to make sure that all residents and staff remain safe in the work place and resident and young adults remain safe.
