What is this article about?

Seclusion is a behavioural intervention used by mental health services, wherein a client is confined in a room alone and prevented from freely exiting. It can be enacted at any time of day or night. Along with restraint, seclusion is a type of restrictive practice. Restrictive practices are used as a last resort intervention in the event of a behavioural emergency. They may further exacerbate the client’s trauma or inflict physical or emotional harm, posing a profound risk to their safety and wellbeing. Furthermore, these interventions are not known to alter the client’s behaviour in the long-term

A great resource to assist with behaviour in challenging clients, using restrictive practices as a last resort.

A good, to the point resource which spells out the main issues around isolating and the affect isolating people, including mental illness. This article discusses why people are often isolated including lack of guidelines and training, which could be a call to action for workplaces. Spelling out the reasons for isolating patients is a helpful reminder that staff should be trained in dealing with conflicts, recognising signs and triggers for patients and also be able to de escalate a situation prior to requiring this type of intervention.

There are so many different subjects on Ausmed! I thought it'd be hard to find the resources I need for complicated procedures or rarer conditions, but they've had everything I've looked for so far.
