Incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) is a common form of moisture-associated skin damage that occurs when skin is exposed to urine and/or faeces for prolonged periods. It is frequently misidentified as a pressure injury due to similar clinical features, which can result in inappropriate care, delayed healing and increased risk of infection and discomfort.

This course provides an overview of IAD, including how it develops, who is most at risk, how to distinguish it from pressure injuries, and evidence-based approaches to prevention and management.
