Lecture Overview

In this lecture, associate professor Geoff Sussman provides an essential update on key issues in sports medicine, including the management of soft tissue injuries. He also reviews evidence for medicines used in sporting injuries. Focus then turns to wound care in sport, including during and post-match management of lacerations, grazes, friction burns and blisters. Also includes a guide to tape and adhesive selection.

A/Prof Geoff Sussman (OAM JP FPS FACP FAIPM FAWMA FRVAHJ) holds a position in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science at Monash University. He has been a faculty member on wounds at St Anne’s College, Oxford University and is the founder of the Wound Foundation of Australia. Geoff was awarded an OAM in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2006 for his work in wound care as a researcher, educator and clinician and was recognised at the 2008 World Wound Healing Congress in Toronto with a lifetime achievement award.
