Lecture Overview

Sickle cell disease is a genetic haematologic condition where the red blood cells form a sickle or crescent moon shape instead of a normal round disc shape. In this lecture, apheresis nurse Jessica Klass discusses the pathophysiology, potential complications and treatments of SCD.

Jessica discovered apheresis at The Royal Melbourne Hospital 4 years ago which has since been amalgamated with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Jessica is now the associate nurse unit manager of the apheresis department for the VCCC precinct.
