Need

Anaesthesia and sedation are used frequently in the perioperative environment. Nursing and other healthcare professionals who care for patients before, after and during this period are required to have an understanding of the types of anaesthesia and the risks associated with it. This knowledge helps increase awareness and understanding of the patient experience as well as what to expect from the patient who has been administered anaesthesia.

Purpose

The purpose of this Course is to provide registered nurses and other health professionals with significant education relating to anaesthesia and sedation for patients in the perioperative environment.

Learning Outcomes
  • Accurately assess, recognise and respond to patients who have been administered anaesthesia or sedation.
  • Improved knowledge of the different types of anaesthesia and risk associated with general, regional and local anaesthesia
Target Audience

Nursing and other healthcare professionals who care for patients before, after and during anaesthesia and sedation administration.
