What is this article about?

Research suggests older adults are the most likely demographic to experience feelings of loneliness and social isolation. By numbers, one in four Australian adults experience feelings of loneliness. Data from 2018 suggests that at least 13% of older adults over 65 experience loneliness, with those over 75 more likely to be lonely than any other age group. Furthermore, at least 8% of older adults over 65 are socially isolated. Other research has found that living in a residential aged care facility can potentially contribute to these feelings of loneliness and social isolation.

As an aged care nurse all the knowledge we can receive by updating our learning is so helpful. Residential Facilities can become very lonely for some residents and they can become very sad, depressed and feel they have been deserted by their families. Reassurance and 1on1 time given helps them settle in quicker. It not easy when there is a resident whom is new to the facility and becomes quite adamant that they are not staying, our hearts break for them, this recourse has provided different approaches that can be used to help.

Sometimes I find it really hard to make time for my learning, but I was blown away by how easy it is with the Ausmed app. I can fit it in during breaks or on the bus to work.
